Safety Survey
The Haines Transportation Safety Survey was open from early November 2025 through Dec. 31, 2025. It is a key part of developing the Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, giving everyone a chance to share their experiences regarding travel around the Haines Borough: how they get around, where they feel safe or unsafe, and what kinds of changes they believe would make local travel safer and easier.
The online survey included an interactive map where users could drop pins to mark locations that feel unsafe or where they have experienced a crash or “near miss.” These real-world insights help the project team understand where safety concerns are concentrated and what factors (like lighting, sight distance, or road conditions) might be contributing to the problem.
Paper surveys were also available at several locations around the Borough, including the Haines Borough Administration Building, Chilkoot Indian Association Administration Building, Post Office, Gateway Building, Haines Library, Haines School, Haines Senior Center, Four Winds Resource Center, and Chilkat Indian Village Main Office. The paper version was also available for download (see below) so respondents could print it off and turn it in at any of the aforementioned locations.
Feedback from this survey will be combined with crash data, field observations, and technical analysis to guide the Haines Borough, Chilkoot Indian Association, and project team in identifying top safety concerns and realistic solutions.
